A layer of snow about 30 centimeters thick covered the Stockholm area from December 4 to the present, while the weather forecast agency said the "snow carpet" could be 20cm thicker.

A spokesman for the Swedish airport coordinating agency said that at present, Arlanda Airport only operates a limited number of outbound flights and does not accept incoming flights, while Bromma airport, small and located near the center of the capital more, has ceased operating completely.

Arlanda's website is busy with visits by passengers anxious to get information about the traffic situation at the airport.

According to the Nobel Prize Committee, some winners will come to Stockholm today and many press conferences and seminars will take place in this city from now until the award day.
