Beijing on December 7 has for the first time raised the level of warning about air pollution to the highest level, after the smoke carried an unpleasant smell back to the city.

According to China Daily, the Chinese government is planning to spend 1,700 billion yuan (US $ 277 billion) to address air pollution in the next five years.
