NASA's James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has detected two neutron stars colliding so violently that they may be creating gold in space.

The answer is not simple and depends on the distance between the exploding star and our planet.

Astronomers have discovered the collision of two neutron stars in 2017 creating a heavy element of strontium alongside gold, lead and platinum.
