Taiwan: 52 people died in a terrible cold spell
At least 52 people have died in the cold, considered the most horrible in the history of the island.
According to Taiwanese media, 36 people died in Taipei and Taoyuan cities. The second largest city of Kaohsiung has 16 deaths, mainly due to sudden hypothermia and stroke.

In Taipei City, the temperature has dropped below 4 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature measured in 44 years. It is forecasted on January 25th the temperature will continue to decline deeply.
Focus Taiwan reports that warnings have been given to people at risk of hypothermia and stroke. Many cases were taken to Taipei Medical University Hospital in critical condition, mainly due to heart failure, stroke or heart attack.
Southern China has been suffering from a record cold spell since 1986, with snow and ice covering much of the territory and frequent temperatures below 0 degrees C. Many northern regions like Hac Long Jiang's temperature dropped to -30 degrees Celsius, boiling water immediately froze.
The Guangzhou government also noted for the first time that the city has snow after more than 60 years.
