Taiwan is shaken by an earthquake of 6 degrees
An earthquake of about 6 degrees shook the buildings in Taipei earlier this morning, there were no reports of damage and casualties.
The earthquake occurred at 5h28 minutes 5/8, the epicenter was 10km deep in Nghi Lan district, northeast Taiwan, about 70km from Taipei. The US Geological Survey said the earthquake was 6 degrees strong, while according to the Taiwan weather agency's record of 5.9 degrees.

Taipei's high-rise buildings shook and people woke up. The people on the whole island felt a tremor. The earthquake also caused power outages for more than 1,300 houses in the Taipei area. Taiwan Railways stopped some activities in Yilan County, but there are no statistics on damage and casualties.
Taiwan Island is located at the intersection of two tectonic plates, causing earthquakes to occur frequently. More than 100 people were killed in an earthquake in southern Taiwan in 2016. Many Taiwanese are still obsessed with a magnitude 7.6 earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people in 1999.

In April, two strong earthquakes of 5.6 and 6 degrees occurred in Taiwan's Taitung and Hualien districts, with the epicenter at a depth of 10km. Many buildings in Taipei were shaken during the earthquake but there was no human damage.
A powerful 5.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in January, located about 90 km away from Hualien County, Taiwan, which made the people in Taiwan feel remarkably shaken.
