Tanzania faces the worst flood in 50 years
The capital of Dar es Salaam of Tanzania is experiencing the worst flooding in more than 50 years, causing at least 23 people to die and nearly 5,000 people falling into the "sunshine".
Mr. Meck Sadick - Regional Councilor of Dar es Salaam capital - said that the floodwaters were rising so quickly that the number of casualties would increase as more people could not run. The government of the capital ordered to stop trading activities in the city because most of the area was flooded deep in the country.
According to Agnes Kijazi, director of the Tanzania Meteorological and Hydrology Agency, this is the biggest flood since 1954 until now that the agency recorded, because after only 2 days of rain flooded the capital Dar. es Salaam.
Currently the Tanzanian government is urgently carrying out relief activities, providing tents and blankets for the people; and urged the international community to support medicine and food for those suffering the consequences of this severe flood.
