Tattoo mummy revealed in Peru
Archaeologists study mummies. ( Photo: BBC ) A mummy with a new tattoo is found in Peru. Archaeologists think that this is one of the most intact artifacts of civilization that ended more than 1,300 years ago.
The mummy is a 30-year-old woman, believed to be a senior member of the Moche tribe. The skeleton of a devoted female virgin was also found with a rope around her neck.
American and Peruvian archaeologists found mummies in the El Brujo area. They thought it was from 450 AD.
The appearance of precious objects such as gold jewelry shows that women are an important figure, anthropologist John Verano at Tulane University in the US said. But the appearance of the batons surprised the archeology team.
" Maybe a woman is a warrior, or sticks and spears are a symbol of the power that men spend as funeral gifts ," Verano said.
According to archaeologists, this woman gave birth once but the cause of death is still unknown.
