Terrible hail ravaged Muong Khuong

At 12h last night 26/3, a terrible hail happened in 13 communes and towns in Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai.

There are four severely damaged communes and towns: Muong Khuong, Tung Chung Pho commune, Ta Thang and Mushroom Lu.

According to Pham Ba Uyen, vice chairman of Muong Khuong District People's Committee, the estimated damage to now includes: 7,000 damaged houses, many damaged family properties such as TVs, wardrobes and cars. Many gardens grow tobacco, corn, soybeans . totally damaged. Eighteen people were hit by rocks, two seriously injured with their hands and head injuries, most of them were rented to the town by the students and injured by hail. Currently, the number of injured people has been taken to Muong Khuong General Hospital.

The entire Muong Khuong district has stopped all regular activities to overcome the consequences of hail. The biggest difficulty is that families do not have accommodation due to the roof ruptured. An urgent measure is to buy fibro cement roofing sheets to re-roof the roof in conditions of heavy rain. The fibro cement roof sheets and tarpaulin in the district market are on fire, with no stock left to buy. The supply of fibro cement roof sheets from Lao Cai city and upland areas is difficult due to steep passes and a distance of over 100km, which does not meet the current urgent needs.

Si Ma Cai district and Dac Ha district also hail from 12:30 last night, the stone is as big as a bowl and causes heavy damage, PV will update more information about damage in these two districts.

It is still raining heavily together with hailstones in Muong Khuong district. According to the forecast of Lao Cai Hydrometeorology Center, in the next few days there will be a series of cold air intensification, hail phenomenon is only temporary, due to the reaction between two hot air waves and cold air should cause unusual hail.
