The era of dinosaurs has ended millions of years, but archaeologists still work hard to capture their enormous diversity. The report published last month officially recognized Spinosaurus as the largest carnivorous dinosaur known to science.
This bipedal has actually revealed itself on fossils since 1915 in the specimen description of German archaeologist Ernst Stromer. He described the theropod (identified as a bipedal carnivore) larger than Tyrannosaurus rex , but the first Spinosaurus bones were destroyed by allies in 1944. The tyrant is still the lord of size in the world of terrestrial carnivores.
This throne was later ceded to the Giganotosaurus dinosaur 11 years ago.
Now Cristiano Dal Sasso from Civil Natural History Museum in Milan says Giganotosaurus has been deposed based on conjectures on the new Spinosaurus skull.
