The Biogas Program for Vietnam livestock industry is nominated

The award ceremony will be held at Hemicycle, the European Parliament (Belgium) at the end of January 2007. There are 700 projects participating in this year's Global Energy Award - a worldwide recognized energy and environmental award. Biogas program for Vietnam's livestock industry was nominated for this award.

The regular use of fossil fuels and exploitation of biological populations is a serious threat to the natural environment of our country. In response to this unfavorable trend, the project " Biogas Program for Vietnam Livestock Sector " in cooperation with the Netherlands has been implemented in our country since 2003, successfully ending in January 2006. The project has supported the construction of 18,000 biogas plants in 12 provinces, contributing to reducing the amount of chemical fertilizers and especially reducing environmental pollution, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, estimated at 64,000 - 119,000 tons CO2 / year.

The Department of Livestock Production (formerly the Department of Agriculture) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Dutch Development Organization (SNV) coordinate and implement this project.

By supporting people about a fifth of the value of building a family-sized biogas plant , a biogas biogas plant saves about 2.3 tons of firewood, equivalent to 0.03 hectares of forest. each year, produce 30 tons of high quality biomass. It is estimated that up to 90% of farmers using biogas also use biogas residues to improve soil structure and maintain organic matter in the soil.

Biogas digester also enhances people's health through reducing bad odor, indoor air pollution, renovating toilets and breeding facilities, contributing to helping women and children from the burden of work. housework and seeking firewood as well as reducing deforestation.

However, the current limitation is that the capacity of the biogas plant of the project is only suitable for small scale and household farming . Breeding on an industrial and farm scale tends to thrive in many provinces, causing pollution to the environment without effective technology and solutions.

This year 2006, the project " bridging " continues Phase I and prepares for Phase II to build 9,455 biogas plants in 23 provinces and cities nationwide, of which 11 provinces have just joined.

With Netherlands funding of 3.7 million euros and reciprocal capital of the provinces, in the second phase (2007-2010), the project will complete the construction of 140,000 biogas plants in 58 provinces and cities. successfully established the goal of establishing a marketable sustainable biogas industry in Vietnam. Will contribute to reduce about 420,000 tons of CO2 equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions per year, replace about 200,000 tons of firewood or agricultural waste each year with clean energy sources, and create at least 2,500 jobs in supply. service and construction of biogas plants for rural people.

The Global Energy Awards show the development of clean and modern energy forms, contributing to sustainable development and minimizing environmental impacts."Instead of the phenomenon of climate change, let's create a change for sustainable and safer development , " said former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
