The bizarre two-headed animals
Genetic changes have created bizarre two-headed animals, from cats, fish, and cows to pythons, turtles, crocodiles and grasshoppers.
Cat
This lovely double-headed gray-haired cat was born in Perth Veterinary Hospital, Perth, Western Australia. Because his mother had complications during childbirth, she had to ask the help of veterinarian George Huber and nurse Louisa Burgess.
The little cat, not as big as this hand, had two other siblings born at the same time, but neither had any unusual signs.
The two-headed cat is smaller than the hand.
This cat only eats with one mouth because one side has a cleft palate, but both can make a sound.
According to statistics, only one in a million cats in the world is born with two heads but this deformity in other animals such as snakes or turtles appears more often.
Gecko
Gecko with a big head and a baby head.
He geckos with two heads on both sides found at an antique shop in Huaihua City, Hunan Province, China on June 3, 2008.
This special gecko is about 10 cm long. Although moving is a bit slow, he can crawl in the opposite direction without turning his head.
Pig
Double-headed pigs are considered lucky symbols in China.
Weighing 1.5 kg, with two mouths and three eyes, the two-headed pig was born in a small village in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, East China.
His birth was considered by the farmers as a 'miracle' thing. The pig is considered a symbol of fertility in China.
Not only that, this pig was born right in the year of the pig, so in 2007 so many people considered it a good omen for the whole year.
Python
The pythons of both ends are about 64 cm long.
A group of veterinarians discovered the two-headed python at the zoo in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Both ends of this python are independent and are capable of eating.
At 64 cm in length, it uses the right head to control every movement and the left end only naturally follows.
Usually, pythons living in the natural world can be up to 7 m long and can swallow a prey larger than their size. The fate of this strange python is still unknown.
The veterinarians are conducting trials to investigate whether this deformity is threatening its life.
Turtle
Two-headed turtles have a very long life.
The two-headed turtle was found at an animal store in Florida. Casey, the shop owner, took the turtle home to take care of him.
Typically, such deformed turtles often die shortly after birth, but Mr Casey said the turtle could live for many years, up to 75 to 100 years, but special care is needed. For each side of the head eat by hand.
Unfortunately, this particular turtle was recently stolen from Casey's store.
Crocodile
Twin crocodiles with two conjoined bodies.
This twin but unique "alligator" crocodile was found by staff in a Thai crocodile farm in 2001.
Cow
Double-sided cow is the result of artificial insemination.
This two-sided cow bears American nationality, he has three teeth, two upper and two jaws but only one mouth, two with separate airways and one eye socket with two eyes.
This unusual cow belonged to Kirk Heldreth, Virginia, USA. Ironically, this is the result of selective artificial insemination to produce the best breed. This condition is considered a form of twins, usually when an embryo is partially divided, forming two sides on one body.
Lamb
Two-headed sheep cannot live until the second day.
This Icelandic two-headed sheep has astonished animal experts around the world. Pall Stefansson said two-headed sheep are rare, but only two similar cases have appeared before. The sheep survived the first night but sadly, the lifespan could not last because it could not lift its head.
Grasshopper
Grasshoppers have a green head and a red head.
Insects of this straight wing have two heads with a red head and a blue border. The red head is capable of drawing attention, distracting the enemy so that they do not attack the main head.
This photo was taken on a coffee farm in Amaga, Antioquia state, Colombia.
Fish
This particular fish is found in Canada.
Special fish with two heads caught from Lake Athabasca area, Canada. The fish weighs 2.5 kg, has two mouths, and one mouth is under the other.
