The group backed the Blu-ray format, including Sony, Philips, Dell and a number of Hollywood studios, claiming their technology would allow the production of DVDs larger than the rival format.
In contrast, Toshiba, Toshiba, Microsoft, Intel and other HD DVD supporters believe that investment costs for HD DVD are lower.
For consumers, this new generation DVD war is embarrassing because they don't know which format to choose. In addition, they also have to pay attention to buying electronic devices that match the movies they want to watch.

Japanese TDK is distributing white Blu-ray discs to retailers. 25 GB single record (recordable) will cost nearly 20 USD and rewritable disc with capacity of more than 24 USD.
Later this year, TDK will continue to release Blu-ray discs that can store data on both sides, thus increasing storage capacity to 50 GB. The recordable version will cost about 48 USD and rewritable approximately 60 USD.
According to TDK, product prices will gradually decrease as production lines for new formats become popular. Meanwhile, Blu-ray players will not appear on the market at least until the end of this year.
