The coffin-shaped iceberg is about to disappear after 18 years

B-15T separated from the ice shelf in Antarctica is moving north, to warmer waters.

The large B-15 ice block separated from Ross ice shelf in Antarctica in March 2000. It floated on the sea and broke into smaller pieces, including a piece resembling a coffin named B-15T. This ice is drifting to warmer waters and will soon disappear, Live Science reported on November 1.

Nearly two decades, the B-15T moved in the cold waters of the Antarctic Circle, NASA explained. This is the sea currents moving around Antarctica, keeping the ice floats in a cold environment for many years. In this area, the B-15T is shaped into a special shape by colliding with ice sheets and a number of other factors.

"With the B-15T's 18.5-year journey, this coffin is an accidental result between time and space. We can only speculate on factors that have affected the B-15's fragment. in the process of moving around Antarctica, " said glacier researcher Chris Shuman at NASA.

When an astronaut saw B-15T through the clouds and took pictures, the ice floated to the south Atlantic. The lack of sea ice around shows that it is in warm and melting water, according to NASA.
