The fate of chimpanzees and monkeys is sent to space by NASA
Baker was the first monkey to survive after traveling in space and surviving for 15 years.
NASA has just released some videos and images of chimpanzees and monkeys sent into space for testing. In a video recorded by the US aerospace agency in January 1961, Ham, a trained chimpanzee, was placed in a special biological container before flying into space.

Pictures from the previous two years also show that some other monkeys are preparing for their trip to space with Baker, the first animal to survive back from space travel.

The United States took the first monkey named Albert into space in 1948. However, Albert died of suffocation on a 63 km long flight on the V2 rocket. 11 years later, NASA continued to bring some other monkeys into space but none of them survived.
This changed with Baker and Able on May 28, 1959. Two animals were sent on the Jupiter PGM-19 flight, missiles can reach a maximum speed of 16 thousand km / h. Able died a few days after the rocket landed but Baker lived for 15 years and eventually died in 1984. Baker is now buried in the US Center for Space and Missiles.

Baker's life opened the door for NASA to begin new tests, including monkeys, chimpanzees and humans.
Chosen from a group of 40 candidates, Ham became the first chimp to enter space on a missile departure from Cape Canavarel, Florida on January 31, 1961. Scientists found that Ham only reacted slightly slower than on Earth on a 16-minute journey to reach a maximum speed of 9,426 km / h and bring it up more than 600 km from the launch site.
Ham was rewarded with an apple after he returned alive.
Although there were some unexpected complications during the flight, Ham survived after landing and eventually died on January 19, 1983.
