The hidden lake - Lake Eyre

Eyre Lake is located in Central Australia, a very strange lake: hidden, present. In 1832, a survey team discovered that there was a small valley, covered with salt. By 1860, another survey team arrived, and it was discovered that there was a lake of saltwater with a huge pool of blue water. The following year they returned, intending to measure the area of the lake, but the lake disappeared, where the lake water was now only a small valley.

In fact, this is not a lake that always has water but just a seasonal lake. It will disappear once every 3 years.

So, where does the lake water go? Eyre lake water comes mainly from rainwater and river water. When raining heavily, the lake area can reach 8,200 km 2 ; When the rain is low, the lake water vigorously evaporates to the bottom. Therefore the lake area in the geographic dictionary is 0-8,200 km 2 , with no fixed numbers.

To improve the dry climate in Central Australia, scientists have noticed this lake. They suggested digging a canal connecting Eyre Lake and the sea. The lake is 12 meters lower than the sea surface, so the seawater will automatically flow into the lake, and Eyre Lake will no longer hide at present.
