The old Chinese only spoke English after a stroke

A 94-year-old woman in Hunan Province, China, suddenly could only speak English after a stroke.

According to Fox News, Ms. Liu Jaiyu was hospitalized in a coma-like state two weeks ago. Doctors diagnosed her with a cerebral infarction, a type of stroke that restricted her blood supply.

After the stroke, she found herself unable to speak Chinese. Television pictures show patients lying in bed and answering simple questions in English.

"Ms. Liu uses English to say good morning to me and after the afternoon meal, she uses this language again. My ability to remember English is not good, so sometimes I do not understand what she is saying." , a nurse said.

Ms. Liu Jaiyu used to be an English teacher, but did not use this language for more than 30 years. Since retiring and moving to live in Hunan Province with her daughter, she only speaks her mother tongue.

Dr. Li Yanfang said the patient was paralyzed and had problems with the language function."It seems that the part of the brain responsible for the processing of the mother tongue has been compromised, while the part related to the ability to use English remains intact , " Li said.

Doctors have recorded some other voice patients after a stroke , migraine or trauma. However, Ms. Liu's case is completely different when changing to a learned language. According to the BBC, experts say that the complex nature of Chinese requires the operation of both parts of the brain, while English only needs to use one side of the brain.
