Equipment to help prevent stroke
US-based Boston Scientific has just published a study that showed that a device implanted in a man named Watchman helped prevent stroke.
407 patients participated in testing equipment called Watchman , of which 269 were transplanted Watchman and 138 using Warfarin, effective against blood clots, preventing the risk of death, stroke, according to AFP news. .
One patient was paralyzed by a stroke while practicing physical therapy in the United States
Watchman is implanted in blood vessels under the patient's groin. At the annual meeting of the American Heart Association on March 10, Boston Scientific published the results of the study showing that the Watchman device works similarly to Warfarin.
'The results show that Wacthman is a solution to reduce the risk of stroke leading to paralysis or death,' Boston Scientific researcher Kenneth Stein said.
'Watchman is the only device to replace anticoagulant therapy (such as using warfarin) that has been well researched and tested , ' Stein added.
Watchman was licensed to circulate in the European market in 2005 and several countries in Asia in 2009, according to Boston Scientific.
The results of Watchman's study published March 10 will be submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration for circulation in the US market.
