The oldest pottery workshop in Ancient Egypt

The Egyptian Antiquities Ministry on July 19 announced a pottery workshop dating from about 4,500 years near the city of Aswan in the south of the country. The discovery helps archaeologists have a fuller view of the ancient Egyptian daily life lived thousands of years ago, according to Phys.

The accidental pottery factory was discovered by archaeologists during the renovation of the Kom Ombo temple on the banks of the Nile. Some artifacts like a turntable made of limestone and a pedestal were found inside the pottery workshop.

Through analysis, the Egyptian Antiquities Ministry identified it as the oldest pottery factory ever discovered during the heyday of the Ancient Kingdom of Egypt, belonging to the Fourth Dynasty (extended from 2613 to 2494 BC ) and was built at the same time as the famous pyramids in Giza.

"This is a rare discovery, helping us to understand more about daily life as well as industrial activity and artistic development in ancient Egypt," Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. of Egypt.
