The origin of the legend

The Chinese conceive that a person who suffers a catastrophic death, is not buried, and buried for a long time without rotting may turn into an examination, returning to haunt the living.

According to Ancient Origins, the exam (jiang shi) is a walking dead in Chinese folk legends, appearing much on movies, similar to vampires or zombies in the West. The test is often described as wearing the clothing of Qing dignitaries, with arms always stretched forward due to stiffness and hopscotch instead of walking.

Although most erections have the same costumes, body gestures and movements, many variations still exist. For example, some exams look more like ordinary people, others decay more because of long-dead deaths, sharp teeth, long nails, luminescent green light. Diamonds are stronger than ordinary people, even have flying skills and transform into wolves.

According to myths, the test is made of corpses in many different ways, such as when a person experiences a disastrous death (suicide, hanging, drowning) so that the soul cannot leave body. The dead will not be buried, struck by lightning, or will be turned over by an animal (cat) to turn into an examination and return to haunt the living.

The story of the test can come from reality. During the Qing Dynasty, the bodies of many Chinese workers who died away from home were returned to their homeland. Some people who specialized in this work were dubbed the "driver of the corpse".

At night, two men carry the coffin on the shoulder with bamboo poles. While moving the bamboo poles bent down, looking from a distance, it looks like dead people are rising . That was the cause of the rumors of a resurrected corpse.

At first, many people believed that soul-calling teachers could revive the dead. Under their supervision, the body was able to jump home. This is done at night to minimize the decomposition of corpses, as well as avoiding the face of living people. In addition, a shaman always holds the bell leading the procession, warning people not to approach.

According to the concept, erections often appear at night. In order to survive, they will rob the life force of the living. Some things used for self-defense, against erections include black dog blood, sticky rice, mirrors, chicken eggs, and baby urine.
