The Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City successfully produced the H1N1 vaccine

After more than 5 months of work, the research team of Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute has just released the first batch of A / H1N1 flu vaccine. Animal clinical trials show that this type of vaccine is highly effective and safe.

Dr. Cao Thi Bao Van, deputy director of the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City, said that this type of vaccine is produced by cell culture technique. This technology has an outstanding advantage over the classic process of producing flu vaccines on chicken eggs with embryos.

In old technology, vaccines were cultured from embryos of perfectly clean chicken eggs. However, according to Ms. Van, to get clean eggs is not easy because the price of this egg is quite high (up to a few dollars per fruit).

As for the production of vaccines by cell culture, due to the availability of cellular banks, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City can take the initiative in all input materials, comprehensively check and automate many stages in the process. production, thereby improving the safety and quality of vaccines.

According to Dr. Van, with the advantage of this technology, the manufacturer can produce a large amount of vaccine quickly without depending on the source of clean chicken eggs.

Currently the first batch of vaccines is being researched at the research group of Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute conducting pre-clinical evaluation tests. The time it takes for this vaccine to be used massively will depend on the time of testing.

"Normally, after testing on animals, vaccines will be tested on humans at three new stages recognized by the authorities. However, in the case of pandemics, testing time and procedures may be shortened, " said Ms. Van.

Dr. Van believes that the Institute's H1N1 flu vaccine is highly effective and safe because of the vaccine manufacturing process and technology based on the theme of 'Research on building A flu vaccine production process. / H5N1 inactivated for humans by Vero cell culture technique.

This work was funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the research group of Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City successfully fabricated PAVIFLU A / H5N1 flu vaccine with technology on Vero cell culture. This vaccine has demonstrated 100% protection effectiveness on pre-screening trials with highly virulent strains of A / H5N1 influenza virus circulating in Vietnam in 2009.
