The phenomenon of 'two suns' appears again in Quang Ngai

The "two suns" phenomenon took place from 5:30 a.m. to about 6:30 a.m. this morning in Quang Ngai. The clearest image appears at about 6 o'clock. Besides the large, clear image of the Sun, there is a faint halo similar to the second Sun.

This morning (March 14), the phenomenon of "two suns" appeared again in Quang Ngai and was recorded by people. Accordingly, Mr. Le Van Tuan, residing in Quang Ngai city, recorded and posted on his personal Facebook about this phenomenon.

Mr. Tuan said that this image appeared this morning, March 14. He captured the image while standing in VSIP Quang Ngai urban area. The "two suns" phenomenon took place from 5:30 a.m. to about 6:30 a.m. this morning. The clearest image appears at about 6 o'clock. Next to the large, clear image of the Sun, there is a faint halo similar to the second Sun. This halo is smaller and dimmer.

Recently, the "two suns" phenomenon also appeared in Hanoi, causing a stir in the online community. Meteorological experts explain that this phenomenon occurs due to refraction and scattering of light in the atmosphere. This will create the illusion of the sun when the conditions are right. Experts say this is a completely scientific phenomenon , occurring a lot in polar regions, but rarely appearing in other places.

According to Mr. Dang Vu Tuan Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Astronomy and Cosmology (VACA), this phenomenon is due to a coincidence in the process of scattering and reflecting sunlight. Under certain conditions, when it is cloudy, sunlight, when it collides with water particles and ice crystals, is reflected almost completely, forming an image of the Sun, as if it were silhouetted against it. a lake surface.

This reflection continues to reflect again when it encounters another layer of clouds, with only a portion being scattered. Therefore, this second reflection forms an image that is visible at ground level like a second Sun.

And Mr. Vu The Hoang, Chairman of Hanoi Astronomy Club (HAS), said that when looking at the image, it makes us feel like there are two Suns. However, this situation is unlikely to happen. West Lake has a very large area, if there were 2 real suns, there would be many photo angles spread, over here there is only one photo angle.

He identified two cases. One is due to the photographer's camera lens or phone camera, they took photos through a refracted lens, resulting in 2 suns. Even using photoshop technology to attract views. The second less common case is due to refraction under clouds. A layer of clouds amplifies and refracts the scattered light, creating an identical sun right below.
