The project of growing vegetables in containers between Elon Musk's brother New York
Kimbal Musk, famous billionaire brother Elon Musk, is developing a farm with containers in the heart of New York City, USA with the ambition to change the traditional diet.
Calling the model I am pursuing is the ' food revolution' , Kimbal Musk is trying to change the way people use food. Managing two restaurant chains, Kimbal Musk always uses food prepared with traditional flavors to serve customers. Since 2011, his non-profit program has installed so-called Learning Gardens in more than 300 schools to teach children about agriculture.
In early October last year, Kimbal Musk and colleagues released Square Roots , a farm located between Brooklyn, New York.Using 10 containers, Kimbal Musk and colleagues created a farm in the middle of a bustling city.
On four parallel walls inside a container are sprouting green plants. The nutrient-rich water source and the blue and pink lights ensure plants grow.
Trees grown in this manner grow normally compared to traditional farming methods.
Kimbal Musk and his colleagues are also transferring farming technology to people who want to grow their business in this way, including those who have never had contact with farming.
On average, every day this farm uses about 30 liters of water to grow plants, much lower than the amount of water used by a family.
Water, temperature and oxygen in the farm are all controlled, helping to ensure the quality of vegetables when harvested.
Finished vegetables are packed before being delivered to distribution points for consumers.
The founders expect Square Roots to be deployed in 20 cities between now and 2020.
After the booming technological era of the 1990s, the brothers were Musk who moved from South Africa to Silicon Valley. They founded X.com, which was later merged with PayPal before being bought by eBay.Growing vegetables is just one of several projects that Kimbal Musk pursues.
