The reason you do not ignore the shelf life of a condom

Using an expired condom increases the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, skin irritation and unwanted pregnancy.

Men rarely notice condom use. Even, many people do not think condoms have expiry date. In fact, like every other product, condoms are only good for a certain period of time.

According to Men's Health, condoms are primarily made of three types of latex, polyurethane or sheepskin. All have something in common that does not exist forever.

Normally, latex condoms last five years from the date of manufacture. This time will be shortened if you store condoms in high temperatures or lots of light.

Not only does it lose efficiency, expired condoms also lead to a high risk of skin irritation.(Photo: MH).

For longer, condom quality decreases . "That means they are prone to tearing or falling when having sex," said Dr. Leah Millheiser from Stanford University (USA).

Besides, spermicides and lubricants on condoms can be dry before the expiration date. Not only does this result in loss of effectiveness, it also leads to a high risk of skin irritation.

So is the use of expired condoms dangerous? The answer is yes and no. On the one hand, expired condoms increase the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies. On the other hand, they are still a better choice than not using any safety measures.

"If you can't do anything else, you should use the condom temporarily," Dr. Millheiser advised. If you want to check the quality of the bag, just fill it with water to see if the bag is torn.

In addition, to remember condom longevity, Dr. Millheiser recommends that you put them in a box and write on it the expiration date. So, you will know when to buy a new condom.
