The red bearded lady makes the medicine curious

Grace Gilbert (USA) born with a hairy body and grew up with a red beard longer than 45cm made medicine so far unable to find an answer.

According to Human Marvels, Grace Gilbert was born on February 2, 1876 in Ohio (USA), the youngest of four children. At the time of birth, parents found Gilbert strange because his body was covered with cilia. Over time, Gilbert's hair grew more and more rigid. At 18 months, my hair was longer than 30cm, the face appeared four 10cm long beards. The baby was described in the press at that time as "the most curious living creature ever".

Growing up, Gilbert realized that every career opportunity or marriage was extremely limited to a special person like me. At the age of 18, the young girl decided to embark on the entertainment industry and join the famous American Ringling Brothers circus. With a red beard longer than 45cm, Gilbert immediately became famous, becoming the longest bearded woman in the world.

In 1903, Gilbert left the Ringling Brothers to come to the Barnum & Bailey circus. Two years later, the artist with the nickname " red bearded lady" continued to move to work and toured in England and France. Unlike other shows, Gilbert did not show his strength or skill but just sat there in front of the audience.

Wise, Gilbert behaved like a real lady and liked the elegant pleasures of women, typically embroidery. However, she still raised questions about gender because she brought in a large, sturdy physique. Gilbert is ready to assist in the work of the circus, including building tents.

In 1910 Gilbert married his childhood friend Giles Calvin. During the wedding, the priest could not distinguish the bride and groom from the rumors that the sex of the "red bearded lady" spread widely. In addition, many people suspect that the couple's wedding is just an advertisement by Calvin that is related to Gilbert. To prove love, "red bearded lady" left the stage and plowed fields in her husband's hometown. Compared to the income that the entertainment industry brings, farm work is too hard. In 1916 Gilbert returned to the circus.

In January 1924, returning home after the tour, Gilbert suddenly fell ill. Her husband was away, she had to rely on her neighbor's care. The woman complained of a sore throat and the condition quickly changed. A few hours later, "red bearded lady" died at the age of 48.

Until now, the scientific community has not been able to determine what disease Gilbert has. Some experts say she has congenital hypertrichosis or werewolf syndrome that causes hair growth on the body. Since the first case was discovered in 1648, the world literature only recorded about 300 more cases of hypertrichosis. There is currently no treatment for werewolf syndrome.
