The salamander 'fossil live' stuck two years in the sewer pipe

A rare giant salamander is found when trapped inside a sewer at a resident's home in Wuhan, China.

Wu Shuying, a 51-year-old woman in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, discovered that the rare salamander belonging to the extremely dangerous group of animals was stuck while fixing water pipes, according to Long Room. According to Wu, it is likely that the salamander has been in it for two years.

Ms. Wu and her husband decided to replace the larger pipe after the long time in the house drains slowly. They saw the salamander while Ms. Wu's husband and grandson repaired the pipe in the kitchen on the afternoon of November 18.

Ms. Wu said there was noise coming from the pipe and the amphibian had a dark color at that time. It is 80 cm long, 20 cm wide and weighs 5.4 kg. At first, the husband thought it was a big carp but Ms. Wu immediately recognized the giant Chinese salamander animal."It's obviously a giant salamander. I've seen one in 1987," Wu said.

After catching the salamander, Ms. Wu put it in a large tank in the kitchen and went to sleep. Around midnight, she heard a sound like a baby crying from behind. Ms. Wu immediately woke up and saw the salamander flee to the backyard. This time, Ms. Wu placed it in a large bucket filled with water and covered the wooden board above to prevent the animal from escaping. Ms. Wu shared that she heard similar cries coming from the sewer for the past two years.

is the largest amphibian in the world and has been dubbed the "living fossil" because it still retains much of its characteristics for 170 million years. "They haven't changed much since the tyrant dinosaurs," said Andrew Cunningham, a member of London Zoological Society, England. In China, this salamander species is also called "wa wa yu" , meaning "newborn fish" , because they have the same sound as babies cry.

The salamander is 1.4 meters long and weighs 52kg in the Chongqing cave.

In December 2015, a salamander of 1.4 meters long and 52kg weighed down while hunting in a cave in Chongqing, China. Brown animals are tested by wildlife experts before moving to a local research center.

Ms. Wu and her husband handed the giant salamander to the Jiangxia Wildlife Protection Station. The staff at the station dropped it into Shagang reservoir on November 19. A spokesman for the station said the giant salamander could live in the Shagang reservoir. Maybe she crawled into the sewer pipe of Ms. Wu's house two years ago when she was young and stuck there after growing up.
