The scientific world has found the exact age of the Moon

Based on the stone samples collected from the Apollo 14, scientists determined that the Moon's actual age was 4.51 billion years.

Based on the information sent by the Apollo 14 mission ship , researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles finally determined the true age of the Moon. And that number is 4.51 billion years.

These findings suggest that the Moon was formed about 60 million years after the solar system formed. This result far exceeds previous estimates by other research groups suggesting that the Moon was formed within 100-200 million years after the birth of the solar system.

It is known that, in the past, the Moon's age was determined based on analysis of Moon rocks. It is said to be made up of the result of many cosmic collisions that took place.

Melanie Barboni, who led the study, said: "It is important to determine the exact age of the Moon. It shows the evolution of the solar system evolving and rock formation, including Earth as well ".

In order to give an accurate figure for the moon's age, the team analyzed the stone containing zircon - a substance collected by the Apollo 14 on the Moon's surface in 1971.

Thereby, experts found zircon to be a substance capable of preserving the history of geology best. Thanks to it, we can understand the origin of this substance.

Zircon mineral is very small, only equivalent to a grain of sand on Earth. However, scientist Melanie Barboni said: "Size is not a problem, they have recorded very interesting information."

According to Barboni, the Moon is made up of debris created when meteors hit the Earth. And this process is thought to take place about 4.51 billion years ago.

Currently, the team continues to analyze other zircon samples collected by Apollo 14.

The study also showed that the inner structure of zircon consists of four different elements: uranium, lead, Lutetium and hafini. Still, Barboni and his colleagues suggest that the results found above will support the Moon's theory of age.

The study was published in Science Advances.
