Francois Englert and Peter Higgs were honored to receive the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics for their work to identify and discover the Higgs particle , also known as "God's particle , " the BBC reported.

The discovery of the Higgs, a subatomic particle, could help humans explain why all kinds of matter in the universe have mass. Not only is it significant for the universe, for the Higgs, people will have new sources of energy, helping to make breakthrough technological achievements in transportation and telecommunications.
Francois Englert, 80, is an emeritus professor at Libre de Bruxelles University, saying he was "very happy and honored" to receive this award.
Peter Higgs, 84, a professor of physics at the University of Edinburgh, said: "I was very surprised to receive this award. I am very grateful to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences."

Peter Higgs and Englert will share a prize of $ 1.2 million at the awards ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on December 10, the death day of the founder of Alfred Nobel.
Some physicists predicted the existence of the Higgs in the 1960s. In 1964, Peter Higgs was the first to publish the hypothesis of the Higgs particle. The last Higgs prediction mechanism was discovered in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider, Switzerland.
