The second person in the world is cured of rabies

A 15-year-old Brazilian boy has been cured of rabies, becoming the second case in the world to survive rabies and is the first case in the country.

Symptoms of rabies (also known as water scare disease) appear after an incubation period of 10 days to more than 1 year, including fatigue, difficulty breathing, fever, salivation, periods of intense stimulation, Spasticity and sore throat when swallowing.Patients at the last stage only need to see the water to be constricted and paralyzed, then die within 4-5 days. When bitten by a wild animal, daily injections of wild rabies virus can help a person not get sick.

Rabies, mainly caused by the bite of an infected animal (such as rabid dogs, wild cats .), leads to acute encephalitis. If not treated, the patient is almost certain to die.

The boy from Recife, the capital of Brazil's northeastern state of Pernambuco, was bitten by a bat while sleeping. The boy was treated for rabies virus in a month of hospitalization.

The treatment for him was similar to that of the first healed rabies, a teenage girl in the American city of Milwaukee. However, doctors from the two countries do not use each other's exact method, because some essential drugs are not available in Brazil.

This treatment, developed in 2004, has been tested on 17 cases. However, only the American girl and the boy in Brazil survived. A third case in Colombia but not yet confirmed.

This treatment may be developed by Brazil's Ministry of Health to treat rabies. However, the boy was still in critical condition, because he was still unconscious and had to breathe.

Brazil has 629 cases of rabies in the last 20 years, mainly in the north and northeast of the country, which are still relatively underdeveloped.
