The sick bee is not humming
Honey bees with activated immune systems also have memory problems, according to evolutionist biologist Eamonn Mallon at Leicester University. He said his findings could be useful in trying to help the weakening bees.
He said: 'This is a living animal based on memory. Even a very small effect on memory can be a serious problem. '
Like humans, bees can get sick and recover a few days after the immune system works to repel viruses or parasites. The research team published findings in the Royal Society's Biology Letters.

The researchers divided the bees into two groups, one injected with an immune system stimulant. They then gave both groups a choice between blue and yellow flowers, of which only one color contained sugar water.
Finally all bees find the right flower that contains sugar, but excited bees need a longer period of 10%, indicating that the bee's activated immune system affects their memory.
The United Kingdom has more than 25 native species of bees, but three of them have disappeared in the past 50 and some are threatened . Scientists say the cause of this phenomenon is that epidemics and agricultural methods have made the traditional food source from bumblebee flowers become scarce.
In a phone interview, Mallon said: 'This means that we have to recognize that disease is more important than we thought. There are many concerns about the decline of natural bees and the impact of diseases on the honey bee industry.
