The software helps identify stars on photos

In the future, amateur photographers and astronomers can identify stars in the sky thanks to a software developed by the University of Toronto (Canada) in partnership with New York University (USA).

The software uses the location of the stars and the United States Naval Observatory Observatory database to identify celestial objects on a digital photo or film. You only need to send photos to the project website and within a few seconds will be able to identify the recorded stars.

Currently, this system is only for professionals but programmers hope to create a version for amateur astronomers.

Sam Roweis, the project leader, said that once the software code is released, it will allow people to use it on the computer or to create another software.

Although the project is still in beta, you can use the software on astronomy.net website.
