The temple is believed to be the tomb of Cleopatra and her lover

The city of Taposiris Magna in northern Egypt may be the place to bury queen Cleopatra and her lover Mark Antony.

According to Ancient Origins, the ancient town of Abu Sir , also known as Taposiris Magna , is located about 45 km from Alexandria, Egypt. This is the most important commercial port of the ancient Egyptians on the Mediterranean Sea.

Archaeologists have excavated the city of Taposiris Magna since 1998. They discovered many artifacts and coins associated with Egyptian, Eastern Roman and Western Roman history. In 2010, researchers found a giant granite headless statue of a king belonging to the Ptolemy dynasty and the ancient temple of Osiris . Zahi Hawass, chairman of the Egyptian Supreme Council, believes that this stone statue was made by Ptolemy IV.

Hawass led an expedition to discover 27 graves in the cemetery behind the temple of Osiris. In it, 20 dome-shaped graves are half floating on the ground. The remaining seven graves have terraces leading to the burial room. All mummies in the tombs turned to face the temple. This makes archaeologists think that the temple of Osiris contains the body of an important royal figure.

According to Kathleen Martinez, a Dominican archaeologist, the temple of Osiris hides one of the largest treasures of ancient Egypt, the grave of Cleopatra and her lover, Mark Antony.

Some evidence supporting Martinez's view includes the Roman emperor Octavian allowing the couple to be buried together, after they committed suicide in 30 BC. Archaeologists also discovered the bust of queen Cleopatra, 22 coins engraved her image, many talismans, a headless statue, a special mask describing the man with a split chin. Maybe Mark Antony.

In October 2015, in a British documentary, Martinez said archaeologists are very close to discovering the grave of Cleopatra in the city of Taposiris Magna.
