Medical experts said that bone marrow transplantation techniques will help treat myelosuppression, blood cancers, diseases of metabolic dysfunction . Compared to cases of organ transplants and bone marrow transplants less expensive because after transplantation, patients only need to use anti-rejection medication for 18 months, while the donor has almost no effect on health.
Currently, the number of people who need marrow transplantation in Vietnam is very high. Only at the National Hospital of Pediatrics, about 50-100 patients a year need to have a bone marrow transplant.
Before carrying out this 3rd marrow transplant, the Central Children Hospital also performed 2 marrow transplants for patients Dang Gia Hung (7 years old in Bac Ninh) and Truong Thi Ninh (15 years old in Quang Ninh) suffered severe myelosuppression. Both cases were successful.
