The volcano roared without rest for 29 years

Since a volcano in the United States awoke in 1983, ash and lava have never stopped spraying from its mouth.

Kilauea means 'eruption' or 'spreading' in the language of Native Americans in the Hawaiian Islands. The total volume of lava from Kilauea volcano is large enough to create a road three times as long as the Earth's equator. Scientists claim Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes on the planet, AFP said.

For those born after January 3, 1983 in Hawaii, Kilauea's eruption has become a part of everyday life.

The Hawaii volcanic observatory celebrates 29 years of Kilauea eruption on January 3 with a lecture on its history. More than 200 people heard the lecture.

2011 was an exciting year for Kilauea. A crack appeared in its eastern flank and very high lava columns escaped from the crack.

A strong eruption of Kilauea in November 1790 claimed the lives of more than 400 people. But it was not until December last year that scientists discovered the lava of that eruption.

Today people often walk near lava flows flowing from the Kilauea volcanic slopes to the ocean. They are not dangerous, unless someone acts foolish - like getting too close to lava.
