The world's first 'safe environment' building

It is Elithis Tower located in Dijon, eastern France. With the ability to generate more energy than consumption, this 10-storey high-rise office building is capable of snatching the title of 'the world's most environmentally friendly building' (as of now).

Elithis Technology Company - the tower design unit and also the investor - said the building design and construction criteria were geared towards saving electricity and taking advantage of natural elements from sun and rain. According to General Director Thierry Bievre, the project worth nearly 7 million euros hardly consumes energy. It is thanks to the large designed windows with double thickness glass, allowing the building to receive maximum natural light. So, even in the days when it is not sunny, the people working inside do not need to open the lights.

In winter, sunshine can warm the whole building. In summer days, a red painted metal shield will take on the function of reflecting the sun to help the building resist heat. Meanwhile, rainwater will be used in the air conditioning and sanitation systems. With the above utilities, Elithis builders believe that the building will generate more energy than consumption. According to Bievre boss, the Elithis tower is the 'most standard environment', estimated to average only 20 kW per square meter per year on average (the current average in France is 400 kW / m 2 ) for heating, cooling and lighting.

According to Bievre, the building's energy consumption may drop to zero if there is cooperation from everyone working here. For example, turn off the computer before leaving, minimize the use of heaters and light bulbs on the ceiling, the desk, use energy-saving light bulbs, at the break to take the stairs instead of using the elevator. 'To get the best results, you need to change your behavior,' added Director General Elithis.

Currently Bievre is hiring experts to monitor the behavior of employees working in Elithis Tower for 3 years to assess whether it is possible to change the mind of not living hard for the environment of office people. In addition, Elithis requires office tenants to sign an agreement to protect the environment (through actions that save energy).
