The world's youngest 3D printing robot maker

Inspired by sci-fi film Real Steel, a 15-year-old male student in Greece is the youngest person in the world to build a real-size 3D printed robot.

Dimitris Hatzis currently lives in the city of Kavala, northern Greece. Hatzis products belong to the InMoow project managed by French designer Gael Langevin. This is an open project, focusing on researching and designing real and human-sized robots with 3D printers.

Dimitris spends over 1,400 hours to plan, test, print and assemble robots. For more than a year, he printed 475 parts, using about one kilometer of ABS thermoplastic and the scraps put them together to form a Troopy robot .

Troopy has a height of 1.85m, designed a number of important features such as independent movement of the head and eyes, 5 degrees of freedom (DOF) in each arm. It can mimic exactly human movements and communicate fluently in English. However, according to Dimitris, this modern robot is not really perfect.

"Every new robot has an improved model compared to the previous version. This explains why Dimitris is not the final version and will probably never. It will constantly be improved and modernized. " 15-year-old male student said.

According to Odditycentral, the youngest Dimitris of the group of six people in the world can follow Langevin's design and complete the project successfully. Other members include two Russians, one Italian and one German. Dimitris revealed that he often talks and works with them as colleagues, despite the age difference.

Dimitris loves robots very early, but only after watching the movie Real Steel in 2013, did he start thinking about making Troopy. Dimitris's creation won first prize at the Industrial Informatics Festival held in Kavala this year. Last year, he was awarded the second prize with the design and assembly of a 3D printer.
