ScienceDaily said that many people often think about 10-20 substances in the blood, but biochemist David Wishart said his group has identified 4,229 substances in the blood.

Doctors often use the results of chemical analysis of blood to diagnose diabetes and kidney failure. Results from this study open up the possibility of diagnosing hundreds of different diseases.

Wishart team leader and more than 20 researchers from six universities used modern technologies to validate previous research results and find other chemical components in the blood.

This is the work to determine the composition of the most complete blood ever. Thereby we know most of the substances in the blood. Doctors can use it as a reference to monitor the health of the patient at the present time and in the future, because the blood chemistry is the first sign of a person's health status.

The database obtained from this study is an open source, meaning that anyone can use it and add it when new data is obtained.

The application of this new database will happen slowly, hospitals and doctors will implement new, original search protocols that may be just a few hundred of the more than 4,000 components already find.

Wishart and colleagues gave a more comprehensive view of the chemical composition of blood.
