M-System and Power Quotient both released 8 GB USB flash drives at Computex IT in Taipei. However, they announced that they would soon double the capacity for this memory device later this year.
Users who are expecting pocket-sized storage devices to store digital photos, files, songs and other data will be able to expect 16GB USB flash drives later this year.
M-Systems Flash Disk Pioneers is exhibiting DiskOnKey 8 GB USB drive at its store at Computex IT taking place this week. The company will launch double-capacity products by the end of this year, based on the "speed" work of chip developers.
Ultra-thin hard drives
Storejet latest mini hard drive ( Source: shop4memory ) Taiwan's Transcend has just launched the latest mini hard drive models called the Storejet. Storejet portable hard drives 2.5 inches, approximately the size of a notebook, range in size from 80 GB to 120 GB, while the 200 GB version is guaranteed to arrive at the end of the third quarter of this year.
Transcend's 1.8-inch Storejet hard drive is even thinner, only with a passport plate, up to 60 GB. Transcend also confirmed it will have an 80 GB version in the next few months.
The company also unveiled an 8 GB USB flash drive, but said lifting 16 GB isn't really easy. " Because of the need to have four control circuits for this 16 GB USB drive, " said Joseph Chu, Transcend's chief accountant. According to him, the 8 GB USB drive only requires two controller chips.
Other companies such as A-Data Technology and TwinMOS Technologies also launched their USB drive models at Computex IT.
Power Quotient International also unveiled a USB drive with a credit card, fit into the jacket pocket and has a small USB plug that opens from the back to plug in a PC or laptop. It also has a capacity of 2 GB and the company claims to have a double capacity version later this year.
