There will be Microsoft Office for Linux
In about two years Microsoft will release a version of Microsoft Office office software exclusively for the Linux operating system.
This is a review made by Stuart Cohen - CEO of Open Source Development Labs - in an interview at the LinuxWorld Conference being held at San Fancicso USA.
" Microsoft has released the MS Office version for Apple's Mac OS X operating system, Microsoft will definitely do it again with Linux ," Cohen said.
Open Source Development Labs aims to further develop Linux operating systems and open source software. Participating in this organization is the founder of Linux operating system Linus Torvalds and is supported by big names in information technology such as IBM, HP and Intel.
The reason why Microsoft has to consider creating a Microsoft Office Linux version is the recent strong development of Open Office office software, Cohen said.
Cohen believes that the Microsoft Office Linux version will take advantage of the Oracle Database 10g Express Edition database application released late last year. This is Oracle's completely free database software to compete with open source applications of the same type.
However, Cohen also stressed that competition between Windows and Linux will remain very "fierce".
