The Swiss government requires lobsters to be killed humanely.

On January 10, the Swiss Government adopted new animal protection regulations with the content: 'Live crustaceans, including lobsters, must not be marinated with ice. Make sure that aquatic animals always live in the natural environment. Must anesthetize them before killing them . '

Accordingly, Switzerland banned all forms of cooked lobster while still alive. This is considered a new move in revising animal protection rules. It is known that this regulation will take effect from March 2018.

The above provision also addresses the issue of destroying illegal puppy farms, prohibiting the use of automated enforcement devices to prevent barking; regulations on how to release animals freely or how to handle them when they are sick. Besides, at public events, organizers must also be responsible for their welfare.

Earlier, the Italian government also banned the preservation of cold lobster because of fears that this could make them 'painful' before becoming dishes.
