Tokyo: the first winter without snow!

Japan meteorological agency today (1-3) said the country's capital Tokyo is experiencing the first winter without snow since 1876.

The Japanese meteorological observatory station in Otemachi, central Tokyo, has not recorded any snowfall since December last year until February this year (winter time in Japan).

The capital of Japan often has more snow in the early spring than in the middle of winter. However, in the context that the temperature is expected to rise abnormally, snow will still not appear in Tokyo this month.

Last year, Japan experienced a rather cold winter, and this winter was warmer, with January average temperature higher than 1.44 degrees Celsius. According to government figures, the sale of warm clothing and kerosene in the country has been affected by the warm winter, with retail sales of those products dropping by 0.8%.
