Towards Mars, NASA astronaut will wear swimming goggles into the universe?
According to Express, NASA scientists have discovered that swimming goggles can keep astronauts' eyes safe in space missions, as they help build up the pressure of liquid inside the eye.
According to a study published in JAMA Opthalmology, up to 75% of astronauts perform long-term missions to show that their vision decreases with years if the eyes are not protected.
Astronauts will wear swimming goggles to protect their eyes in space.
But very interesting recently, Dr. Jessica Scott, of the University Space Research Association, Houston said: "Swimming goggles can reduce some of the adverse effects of the environment in outer space on the eyes."
This new study is based on about 20 astronauts at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston. Half of the astronauts wear swimming goggles, while the other 10 are not.
During the three days, both groups underwent exercises to adapt to the way astronauts move in space. And the results were quite unexpected, the swimming goggles also worked to minimize the harmful effects on astronauts' eyes.
Research also shows that regular exercise can help reduce pressure on the eyes. NASA is still working on astronaut protection solutions, to find the best solutions to the mission of exploring Mars for another 15 years.
