Tram Chim-Dong Thap: Cranes return more and more

On April 18, Tram Chim National Park - Dong Thap said that the number of garden cranes increased from 89 in 2006 to 125 in 2007 and until April 16, 2008, 98 cranes returned. The wetland ecosystem of Tram Chim National Park is recovering.

The area of ​​pasture has tripled since restoration activities began. It is estimated that in 2005, the grassland was only 800ha, and in 2007 it increased to 2700ha.

Currently, Tram Chim National Park is participating in the project "Restoring Dong Thap Muoi Wetland Ecology" of the World Conservation Fund (WWF) to preserve freshwater ecosystems. This project lasts from 2007-2010, with a budget of 250,000 USD / year.

Dong Thap Muoi is considered a priority landscape of WWF because of its biodiversity values. But, almost all of the Plain of Reeds has shifted to agricultural farming, leaving only 1% of the area in natural conditions.

In cooperation with Tram Chim National Park Management Board, WWF experts will focus on rehabilitating wetland habitats, encouraging sustainable use of community resources and helping to rationalize policies related to wetland management.

Some activities of this project will focus on hydrological management, proactive control, pilot Melaleuca thinning, control of invasive foreign species, scientific research, environmental monitoring and promotion. encourage clean agriculture.
