The wooden hull was almost decomposed, leaving only the copper-plated hull slightly green.

'Based on artifacts found in and around the wreck as well as copper-clad hulls, this ship was built around the early to mid-19th century , ' maritime archaeologist Jack Irion, working at the US Oceanic Energy Administration (BOEM) - NOAA's wreck search partner - told American science journal Live Science.

In the 56 days of exploring the wreck area in early 2012, scientists also photographed deep sea corals near Macondo - the oil well erupted after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig collapse in 2010. In addition They also found a coral 'jungle' at the West Florida sea cliff area in the Gulf of Mexico.

So far, the team has discovered four wrecks on the ocean floor, but they believe the mysterious shipwreck was found to be the most interesting, with rare items such as plates. pottery (used by humans around 1.800 - 1.830) left on board.
