Tungurahua volcano 'wakes up'
On January 9, a volcanic activity researcher in Ecuador said the Tungurahua volcano is working again. Authorities evacuated 10 villages living there.
Patricia Mothes, an American volcanic researcher, said the volcano Tungurahua is 80 miles southeast of Quito. " The fire is about to wake up, in just a few days it will work, " Mothes said. When the Tungurahua volcano is active, huge lava flows will come out of the mountain and push tons of ash to the sky.
Tungurahua volcano began operating in 1999. It was " quiet " after waking up on December 22.
Authorities evacuated hundreds of people out of the danger zone. Salazar, a government official, said they will provide new homes for about 286 families living in the volcanic activity area to minimize unfortunate losses.
In July 2-8, Tungurahua volcano was active and killed at least 4 people. Thousands of villages were sunk in rock and ash, thousands of fields were damaged and lost.
