UK: Start the first city WiMax coverage
The city of Milton Keynes, 40 miles northwest of London, will become the first city in the country to provide WiMax coverage next month.
The project will be implemented by Pipex, a British telecommunications company. The company also plans to deploy WiMax networks in eight other major British cities until 2008.
Among the major locations covered by WiMax are London and Manchester, the two largest cities in the UK. The price of the project has not yet been announced by Pipex.
In Milton Keynes, WiMax technology is considered a solution to the broadband problem. In the 1980s, the city decided to use aluminum cables instead of copper cables, and that was also the obstacle to high-speed Internet coverage here.
