Ukraine: Yellow phosphorus burns again

In the area of ​​the former yellow phosphorus fire in Ukraine (Buskyi region of Lvov, near Poland), a new fire broke out, delegates of Buskyi Rostislav Slipts Regional Council said today (3 -8).

This delegate was present at the scene to find out the cause and discovered the new fire was due to the unclear cleaning of the scene before. The representative confirmed that only two barrels of soil (mixed phosphorus) were carried, not 100 tons as previously announced. Currently, local council members and some Lvov city delegates have arrived at the scene.

Earlier, on July 16, a yellow phosphorus train was derailed, making 15 of the 58 wagons overturned. Six yellow phosphorus carriages burned.

The fire has seriously polluted the environment , while the area around the accident site has about 100 inhabitants of Lvov. More than 250 people were hospitalized with signs of phosphorus poisoning. Experts have called this chemical contamination "Chernobyl 2".

Yellow phosphorus is a flammable substance that can spontaneously ignite when exposed to air at temperatures higher than 40 degrees Celsius. It can cause liver damage to people who breathe in it. Phosphorus is mainly used in fertilizer production.
