USA: many states prohibit smoking near children
Beginning January 1, 2007, Texas will limit indoor smoking at all times and in the car when a child is traveling. This is one of the largest states in the United States that passes laws that strictly restrict smoking.

Arkansas and Louisiana also passed this law this year, banning smoking in cars when children are traveling. Judges are asking for a tobacco-free environment in the home and on visits.
' We are acting urgently to protect children from indirect smoking ,' said John Banzhaf, executive director of the tobacco and health action program.
According to health experts, children who smoke indirectly have an increased risk of respiratory diseases and sudden death syndrome in newborns.
Most smoking bans are now applied at workplaces and places such as bars and restaurants, but there are at least six states and some provinces banning smoking in the home, according to Kathleen Dachille, specializing in National University of Maryland Law School.
