Hong Kong: prohibit smoking in public places
In order to protect the health of the community, the Hong Kong and Chinese authorities have banned smoking in bars and restaurants. The ban will take effect on January 1, 2007.
According to statistics, there are about 15.3% of people over 15 years old smoking in Hong Kong. Therefore, in order to limit smoking, by the end of October 2007, the Hong Kong government will print photos warning about the health effects of cigarettes on every cigarette and cigarette pack. Manufacturers who do not comply with this regulation will be fined 6500 USD.
In Thailand, new laws banning public smoking began to take effect on December 29, June. Violators will be fined 2000 baht (US $ 55). Those who manage public areas, if smoking, or non-allegations occur, prohibit smoking by 10 times as much.
