In the study, 15 participants used a drug containing psilocybine. This is a compound in magic mushroom that has arousing effect, creating hallucinations, changing perceptions as well as causing nausea and panic. It is part of a study of conscious behavioral therapy in research by Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland.

According to experts, for those who smoke and intend to give up this habit, absorbing the active ingredients in mushrooms can help quit smoking within 6 months. The results showed that 12 out of 15 volunteers maintained a non-smoking habit after applying the method.
The "magic mushroom" method is considered to be more effective than existing drugs. " The rate of quitting smoking is quite high, twice as much as using gold standard medicine. This is a relatively small study, but it can promise something meaningful," IB Times quoted. Matthew Johnson, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral science at John Hopkins University, said.
Currently, the use of Pfizer's Chantix to support smoking has a success rate of about 35%. Other methods such as using nicotine patches or gum have a lower success rate.
