Video: Mysterious crater in Siberia

According to the Telegraph, helicopter pilots discovered a mysterious crater in the Yamal Peninsula area, north of Russia. The pit mouth has a width of about 50-80m, the depth has not been determined.

The wide and jagged surface of the crater made it look like a crater formed after a big explosion. Surrounding the crater are dark patches of land, which may appear after fires.

The area found the crater to be a deserted tundra, also known as the "end of the world" . The cause of the formation of the crater is still unclear. The assumptions are made regarding the impact of meteorites, unidentified flying objects or a gas explosion.

However, according to experts, no meteorite is large enough to create a collision and form this wide crater without the attention of indigenous people. They also rejected the assumption about flying saucers.

The team from the Arctic Research Center and the Russian Academy of Sciences plans to collect samples of soil, air and water in the area to analyze and find out the cause.
